Victory in the right time and place. These flower very rarely, decades can pass between flowering.

Titan Arum

Amorphophallus titanum

Rare and one of the largest flowers in the world they can reach 10 feet, this was taken at Kew Gardens.
I included the people to give it some perspective. It has a very unpleasant fragrance like rotten meat and fish.
Italian botanist Odoardo Beccari discovered the Titan Arum in Sumatra in 1878. He sent seeds to England’s Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, where the first bloom of this species in cultivation occurred in 1889.

Village Blacksmith

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Careful.”

The Village Blacksmith

Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.

~~Longfellow ~~

A very careful man!

Meditation
There is a seniors residence bordering on our local marsh and in fine weather many of them enjoy the quiet solitude of contemplation. they are always glad to have us stop and spend a few moments chatting, one of the highlights of the many walks we take here….

Spirit Island

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Happy Place.”

Sweet though in sadness. Be thou, Spirit fierce,
My spirit! Be thou me, impetuous one!
The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
